Charlie Strikes Out

 |
Charlie Colella |

Charlie Colella of Pilot Point, Texas was looking forwarding
to Finals Rodeo. It was his goal from the first rodeo to the
last. And he certainly accomplished that goal, accepting invitations
in four different events.
Charlie had his horse working well in the weeks leading up
to Finals. But his results were inconsistent. He did manage
a 4th Place in Barrel Racing on Saturday and an 8th Place
in Pole Bending on Sunday. But the coveted buckles eluded
his grasp.
The competition may have had something to do with it. The
top twenty in each event were competing against him and they
all brought everything they had.
No doubt Charlie will be back at it and you'll probably find
him at the Road Runner Regional Rodeo in Phoenix come January,
ready to make another run at Finals.

Charlie's rodeo career began in 1991. As a member
of IGRA associated with GSGRA-GLAC, his first rodeo was in
San Diego, CA in September, 1991, with Steer Riding
his first competition event, along with the Camp events.
In time, he moved up to Bull Riding, which lasted only 2 years,
due to a fractured pelvis. During the years that followed,
Charlie became more involved with GSGRA as State Rep., Vice-President
of GSGRA-LAC (when LA had 2 chapters), then President of GSGRA-LAC.
Becoming eager to get involved with the horse events, he started
riding and learning about equine care and the horse events.
He purchased his mare, Bailey, in 1994 and they've been growing
and learning together for 10 years. He says Bailey has been
instrumental in several of his championship buckles!
He now own Bailey and her 15 month old filly, Dashin Peppy
Jet (or just plain Jet). He now lives in Pilot Point,
north of Dallas/Fort Worth and is affiliated with TGRA. |
